The inspiration for this series was an extensive collection of family photos going back as far as the early 1900s. I was exploring personal history and identity and my connection to place and people.
I had initially intended to do a series of photographic screen-prints using some of the old photos. The pandemic and difficulty accessing facilities meant that I had to switch up my approach. I prepared the layered images as I would a screen-print and then printed the pieces digitally on canvas.
I will continue to add to this series as I digest the photos and the stories behind them and become more comfortable reintroducing these people, ancestors and others, to the world.
